University Description
Univesity of Tabriz was established in 1947. It is the second oldest University of Iran and the biggest academic institution in northwest of the country has always been playing a significant role in scientific, social and cultural existence of the nation since the early stages of its formation. It is now educating more than 14000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, with 517 academic staff of whom 327 are Ph.D. holders. Out of this teaching staff, 45 are full professors, 62 are associate professors, 220 are assistant professors and the remaining are instructors. A body of over 1000 personnel is supporting academic activities.
Univesity of Tabriz has 12 faculties, 2 colleges and 64 departments and now covers a total of 9 fields of study in Associate-Diploma, 69 fields of study in Bachelors degree, 92 fields of study in Master’s degree and 66 specialized fields of study in Ph.D. From among the total number of students now exceeding 14000, engaged in studying various major and specific fields and disciplines, some 520 students are studying for associate diploma, 10911 for undergraduate degree (including evening courses), 2537 for graduate degree, and 515 students are accomplishing their Ph.D. requirements.
Meantime, University of Tabriz in line with its strategic policies based on attaining a sustainable development in both research and education, has established academic links with a number of accredited international institutions. At present, the university is a full member of “International Association of Universities Executive Committee”.
The campus, enjoying an exceptional location, is a single, self-contained site spread over an area of 585 hectares with plenty of open green areas between the buildings. It is situated at the eastern end of the city of Tabriz on the Tehran highway, commanding an excellent view of mountains on the north. It enjoys an open and hilly green landscape to the south east and south west, providing appropriate ground for future expansion and development. A total area of about 323895 sq. meters has been allocated for educational spaces and buildings.
