University Description
The university’s Welcome Centre is not only supposed to become a hub of support services but of their entire internationalisation activities. And the strategy does not just concentrate on the university itself: it incorporates all the research institutions in Greifswald and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the benefit of the guest researchers.
This networking concept has been developed to an even greater extent, examining the possibilities for exploiting the old structures of the Hanseatic city of Greifswald. This includes extending internationalisation activities by partnerships with universities in Scandinavia, the Baltic States and Eastern Europe (“Bridge to Eastern Europe”). The university is thus turning its location on the periphery of Germany to its advantage and developing the Welcome Centres into a “regional beacon”, sending out
signals to mobile researchers from Eastern Europe, too.
Furthermore, the proposal also comprises diverse services for researchers from abroad covering the period before, during and after their stay in Germany. One particular focus of the support scheme for guest academics is integration by mentoring, and another striking feature is the dual career service planned in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce. Quality management will be assured on the basis of annual evaluation workshops.
