University Description
The University of Gloucestershire is a medium-sized university with over 160 years of history, based on four main campuses in Cheltenham and Gloucester. They have delivered high quality teaching and higher education since 1847. They now offer an extensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate masters and PhD degrees. All the courses achieved the highest rating in the last teaching quality assessment and several areas were highlighted as examples of good practice.
With 8,000 students they are big enough to offer variety and flexibility in their courses, yet small enough that you can expect a friendly atmosphere and a very personal level of support. Their on-campus accommodation, free bus services, free orientation program and dedicated international student support services are there to make your transition to studying in the UK as easy as possible.
In fact, the Times Higher Education Supplement League Table on Overall Student Experience placed the University of Gloucestershire in the top three of all the ‘new universities’ in December 2007, and 12th of all UK universities for Overall Quality of Life in March 2008.
The flexible modular structure of the degrees at Gloucestershire means that you can have more choice about the options you study. Joint Honour’s degrees are increasingly popular, while Sandwich Courses allow undergraduate students to have a year in paid employment with one of the many employers who have links with in industry. The programmes ensure that you are learning skills that quality employers are looking for in new graduates. Their success in this area is highlighted by their ranking in the top 10 of all universities for employability.
Cheltenham offers a huge range of shops, restaurants, pubs and international festivals celebrating everything from science to music.
The ancient city of Gloucester has a thriving dockside community and is home to a range of live entertainment and also offers top quality ski-ing, tennis and climbing facilities.
Whatever your interests, whether it’s walking or water sports, it’s a diverse county surrounded by beautiful hills and countryside.
