University Description
Nesna University College is the oldest institution of professional education in Nordland County, Northern Norway. Nesna University College was founded in 1918 as a Teacher Training College to improve the level of education among people in the Helgeland region and has primarily been engaged in the education of teachers for pre-school, primary, and lower secondary education as the first institution of higher education in Nordland County. Nesna University College is a dynamic institution based on strong traditions when it comes to professional education. It offers a variety of programmes at the undergraduate and the post-graduate level in several areas, as well as independent courses and further education in many fields. Norwegian is the language of instruction in the majority of courses but Nesna University College offers a Norwegian language course. Nesna University College is an institution for both teaching and research and has currently about 1200 full-time and part-time students, as well as 130 staff members (academic- and administrative staff). Nesna University College is a small college, but one of the most important employers in the community. Nesna University College is a resource centre for the Helgeland County and serves the region through its function as a meeting place, resource centre and through its international involvement.
