Betanien deaconal university college (Betanien) is a private academic institution, educating nurses. Betanien are situated i Bergen, on the west coast of Norway.The school was established in 1923.
Betanien represent a rather small organisation with approx 230 students. Betanien consists of an institute for bachelor degree in nursing and an institute for further and higher nursing education.
The bachelor degree in nursing is a full time study for 3 years, giving 180 ECTS credits.
The institute for further and higher education provides one academic year, giving 60 ECTS credits, and prmarely focusing on nursing elderly people. The institute also provides one academic year with training focused on nursing people suffering from cancer.
Being a deaconal institution the activities are based on Christian values. Diacony and ethics, charity to the human being, alleviation of suffering, protect and encuourage human life - consisting body, soul and spirit, constitutes the basics in the Betanien nursing profile. The nursing school aims to educate and form persons who have a concious and clear professional self immage, and who have a deliberate attitude towards other people and the professional situations they will encounter. The development of such attitudes must be seen in relation to the college's principals of value.
