University Description
UCSI University has three campuses on 71.04 acres spread out in three different states, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to meet student needs and offers a wide spectrum of academic programmes, ranging from Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing to Music, Multimedia, Liberal Arts and English Language housed in 8 faculties. The faculties include, the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Built Environment, the Faculty of Industrial Business, the Faculty of Information Technology and Management, the Faculty of Hospitality and Management, the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Music, Social Sciences and Design.
History
UCSI University began as the Canadian Institute of Computer Studies, a computer-based training centre located in SS2, Petaling Jaya, after which it became known as Sedaya College, when it was accorded College status in 1990. In 2002, it evolved into Sedaya International College, reflecting its increasing international focus. When it was accorded university college status in 2003, it became known as University College Sedaya International (UCSI). By 2008, UCSI was accorded university status and named UCSI University.
Kuala Lumpur Campus
Situated on a sprawling 19-acre piece of land, the Kuala Lumpur campus is located in Cheras, just 10 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur. There is convenient access to numerous facilities including banks, restaurants, transportation services, entertainment, and accommodation. The campus is fully wire-less, which means it is equipped with the latest cutting-edge access to the world of e-learning and e-resources. This purpose-built campus is able to accommodate up to 15,000 students.
Sporting facilities in this campus include: basketball, badminton and squash courts as well as a gymnasium, a football field and a swimming pool. Other facilities include the 2-level library, auditorium, recital hall, multi-purpose halls, computer laboratories and cafeterias. Faculty-centric facilities include: the Anatomy & Pathology Museum, clinical skills laboratories, Petrochemical Laboratory, Physiology & Pharmacology Laboratory, Molecular Biology Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, fashion design workshops, Psychology Laboratory as well as, drafting and design studios.
Terengganu Campus
The Terengganu campus in Bukit Khor, Marang (Terengganu), Malaysia, opened its doors in 2007 to 3rd, 4th and 5th year medical students undergoing their clinical studies at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital of Kuala Terengganu. The campus also houses the Faculty of Industrial Business which offers the Bachelor of Business Administration (Oil and Gas Management) and Foundation in General Studies.
Sarawak Campus
Situated in Kuching, Sarawak, this campus provides a dynamic and stimulating environment in which to study hospitality, tourism, events management, retailing, industrial relations and international business. The Sarawak campus is strongly linked with the industry’s bests such as Four Points by Sheraton of Starwood Hotels and Resort Worldwide, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak Tourism Board and many more. This is to ensure that courses remain highly relevant to today’s demands of the hospitality industry, allowing the development of skills that guarantee these graduates employment worldwide.
Future Development in Negeri Sembilan
In February 2008, UCSI University entered into an agreement with West Synergy Sdn. Bhd. (a member of The MUI Group) for the establishment of an education township. Covering some 160-acres is situated at Bandar Springhill, Negeri Sembilan. The first phase of this township involves the setting up of a brand new state-of-the-art private teaching hospital which would initially have 400 beds, and would on completion, be able to accommodate 800 beds. The first phase includes the construction of a new building for the University’s Faculty of Medical Sciences.
A Mix of Cultures
Also renowned for its cosmopolitan and unique international culture, UCSI University comprises both local and foreign students from more than 60 countries. To date, the student population has reached 8,000 of whom 38% are international students.
International Collaboration
UCSI University, through its International University Placement Centre, has entered into collaborative agreements with various foreign universities which recognise the institution as a premier education institution that provides quality education of international standards. The agreements include universities in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States and Canada.
Co-Operative Education Training Programme
Through its innovative academic curriculum, students at UCSI University also enjoy the unique benefits of its Co-Operative Education Training Programme (Co-Op) to enhance their employability. The Co-Op integrates classroom learning with workplace training in Co-Op employer organisations. Students complete two months’ work experience for every year of study. They will have six to eight months’ work experience by graduation and stand ready for full-time employment.
Currently, there are around 700 employer organisations registered as Co-Op employers. Since the start of this programme in 2004, a total of more than 4,000 students have been placed in various Co-Op employer organisations.
Research & Discovery
Besides that, UCSI University’s Centre for Research Excellence has always promoted its research initiatives aggressively in a quest for educational excellence. Many of UCSI University’s academic staff, which comprise mainly PhD and Masters degree holders, are involved in research to a great extent.

In his speech at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kuala Lumpur Campus, the former Minister of Education Y.B. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Musa Mohamad said, by setting up this new and comprehensive campus, UCSI University will be able to upgrade both its capability as well as its capacity to provide world-class education in this country. "I believe that UCSI University will emerge as one of the top private academic institutions in this region," he said. This continues to be the University’s guiding aspiration and vision for the future.
