Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences offers versatile university level education about 130 km east of Helsinki: In Kotka, Kouvola and Kuusankoski. The fields of education are Technology and Transport, Natural Resources and the Environment, Social Sciences, Business and Administration, Natural Sciences, Culture, and Social, Health and Physical Education. There are about 4,500 students, of which about 4,000 are full-time students and about 500 are in adult education. There are approximately 400 employees, of which approximately 220 are employed as lecturers

The main task of Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences is to systematically foster expertise in the region at an individual, business and industrial level. The University of Applied Sciences enhances the human resources of the region and has an active role in developing a regional innovation system and improving regional expertise. A further task is to strengthen the cultural identity of the region. These tasks are carried out proactively and in co-operation with regional, national and international partners and development organisations.
The objectives are to produce degrees, training services, and research and development projects, and to encourage other activities that promote welfare in the region and meet the expertise and development needs of individuals, businesses and other interest groups; promoting their success.
