Gotland University was established in 1998 and is among the youngest universities in Sweden. It is located on the island of Gotland in the World Heritage city of Visby close to Stockholm and the Baltic Sea countries. Very recently Gotland University adopted Liberal Education as its approach to teaching. The mission of the University is to educate the students to understand the complexity of the world they are living in, to help them in their personal development so that they can prepare themselves to fulfil their responsibilities in society while looking after the resources that sustain them.
