Study in India Scholarships
The Indian Government offers a number of scholarships for international students studying in the country. Offer of scholarships are sent to the respective by the Indian Missions that are based in various countries abroad. Nominations are received from respective governments in the Indian Diplomatic mission abroad. Some of the scholarships offered for students include
General Cultural Scholarship Schemes (GCSS) - These scholarships are awarded annually to international students Asian, African, Latin American countries for graduate and post graduate universities. However scholarships for medical studies of MBBS, BDS for medical research leading to PHD degrees not offered under GCSS scheme. Zimbabwe.
Cultural Exchange Programmes- This scholarships are awarded by the Indian Council for Cultural relations (ICCR) for students studying and training in various research fields. The countries that are affiliated to the council include Australia, Algeria, Argentina, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Belgium, Bahrain, Colombia, Cyprus, China, Czech, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Maldives, Mauritius, Malaysia, Mexico, Mali, Netherlands, Nigeria, North Korea, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Senegal, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, United Arab Emirates (UAE), United Arab Republic (Egypt), Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen, Zaire, Zimbabwe.
Commonwealth Fellowship Plan- Scholarships and free ships are offered annually to candidates from commonwealth countries mainly for post graduate studies and awards are also awarded for undergraduate studies. Short duration scholarships are awarded for under the schemes of scholars.
Reciprocal Scholarships Schemes-Candidates wishing to do post graduate studies in any subject may apply for the same. Applicants wishing to specialize in Indian classical music and arts and languages at the graduate level. An international student wishing to study Indian languages should join a university or institution as a regular student.
Technical Corporation Scheme of Colombo Plan- This scholarship is administered on behalf of the Department of Economic affairs and Ministry of External Affairs. This scholarship is awarded to students of the following countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iran, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Thailand.
The scholarships in this scheme are of two categories,
•Category I: This category is for training of officers coming for short or medium-term courses.
•Category II: This is meant for students, trainees, undergraduates and postgraduates coming for short, medium or long-term courses.
The duration of courses is as follows:
•One year or less
•Up to two years
•More than two years
SAARC Fellowship Scheme
This scholarship has been instituted to promote interaction among stduents, scholars and academicians from SAARC countries. Under the scheme six fellowships and 12 Scholarships are offered annually to students belonging to the nations of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Paksitan and Sri Lanka. The scholarships are offered in the areas of econmics, education, environement,agriculture,mass communication, languages, literature, sociology, transport engineering, applied econmics, business adminstration, bio chemistry, social work, food technology and home sciences. One chair is also awarded to a member on rotation basis. Apart from that scholarships are offered to students who do not have the financial means. The financial terms and conditions are finalised and stipulated by the SAARC secretariat.
Apasaheb Pant Scholarships
Under thus scheme scholarships are offered to Kenyan nationals wishing to pursue education at the post graduate level preferably in the field of economics or international relations at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Apart from that the dues the economy class air fare is also provided to the student.
ICCR Scholarship Scheme
The Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India offers Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) scholarship for students from all over the world. The scheme includes 60 scholarships under its umbrella. The freeships are offered for graduate and post graduate programmes in perfroming arts and visual arts and they are also offered for subjects like Indian classical music, dance painting and sculpture.
Craft Instructor Scheme
Under the scheme 10 bursaries are offered to students from Common wealth Nations for training of craft inspectors.
Scholarship Schemes for Sri Lanka and Mauritius
Under this scheme 77 scholarships are awarded.Out of this 47 are awarded to students from Sri Lanka and 30 are offered to students from Mauritius. These scholarships are awarded for purusing studies in graduate and post graduate streams of study and also for purusing research towards fulfillment of Ph.D. degree. Nationals of Sri Lanka can also study specialised subjects like agriculture,engineering and pharmacy ubder this scheme.
