Animation BA (Hons) / Animation for Game Design BA (Hons)

Description:-
Course length: 3 years full-time
This brand new course looks at the increasingly popular area of animation. Designed in collaboration with industry professionals, the fundamental principles of animation are covered including, movement, action, character design and scriptwriting. You’ll have the opportunity to pursue your own aspirations relating to ‘modes of expression’ and storytelling.
At the end of the third semester you’ll be able to choose one of two pathways, either animation or animation for games design.
The course has a distinct emphasis at each level which combined provide a comprehensive range of skills, knowledge and understanding which enable you to secure professional positions as commercial animators and/or practitioners in closely related professions on graduation. These emphasis in broad terms are:
Level 4 – Animation Principles and Skills
Level 5 – Visual Communication and Skills
Level 6 – Professional Practice (Employability) incl. skills
Professional studio practice forms the basis of the course, providing a ‘hands on’ approach to learning animation.
This is supported by creative thinking strategies and methodologies, and a spirit of innovation is encouraged throughout. Drawing forms an integral component at all levels of the programme.
The Faculty has made significant investment in resources to support Animation and Filmmaking, including the acquisition of a MILO motion control unit and Motion Capture facilities.
You will also have the opportunity to students to study abroad, engage in regular field trips and attend specialist guest lectures.
The course is delivered by our experienced staff who include traditional animators, CGI specialists and Visual Communicators. The programme also benefits form specialist technical support staff.
Career Prospects
It is expected that graduates of the programme will be successfully employed as animators in a range of contexts, including the Games Design industry, as well as successfully gaining entry to postgraduate courses. Graduates may also gain career fulfilment in a range of related specialisms, including areas such as: Art Direction, CG and Stop-Motion Modelling, Editing, Post-processing, Post-production, Storyboarding, Sound design, Concept art, Motion Graphics, Scriptwriting etc.
