Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) was established in 1997. It is an accredited University, recognized in the United Republic of Tanzania, through the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU). It was the first private University in Tanzania to be accredited in June 2000. HKMU is also recognized by World Health Organization (WHO), and appears on the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). HKMU has a wide range of facilities, including teaching and research laboratories, a library with a computerized catalogue, fulltime Internet access, E-mail, and CD-ROM facilities for users. Currently, Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) offers programmes in the Health Sciences only, but has plans to expand into other programmes and disciplines of science and the humanities. HKMU range of courses currently include Doctor of Medicine (MD), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degrees, Diploma in Nursing (In and Pre-Service) programmes, Certificate in Wholistic Therapeutic Counseling, and the Pre-University Entry Programme. The University also runs several postgraduate courses, namely Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatrics and Child Health, plus Master of Medicine (M.Med) programmes in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Child Health.
