The University of Bern (German: Universität Bern, French: Université de Berne) is a university in the Swiss capital of Berne. It was founded in 1834. The university is regulated and financed by the Canton of Berne.
The University of Bern offers top quality across the board: it enjoys special recognition in leading-edge disciplines, is reputed for the excellent quality of its teaching, offers a delightful setting, and a campus environment intimately linked to the social, economic and political life of the city.
A full range of attractive bachelor and master degree courses
The university’s comprehensive offering includes 8 faculties and some 160 institutes that date back to the XVIth century. With 13,000 students, it is of mid-range size among Swiss universities. Unlike the bigger institutions, it retains a human dimension and a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Research – Complete networking
Its academic and research organisation prides itself on its interdisciplinarity, exemplified by its three National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCR): Climate, North-South and International Trade Regulation. The University is actively involved in a wide range of European and worldwide research projects, notably in the field of Space Research.
Continuing Education
Studying today does not stop at a university degree: in Bern, a university education continues into the faculties, the institutes and the Centre for University Continuing Education. Opportunities include some 25 training courses in the work place leading to three types of degree: Master of Advanced Studies, Diploma or Certifi cate of Further Education. Also, many individual courses fall within the scope of the Bologna process. The Master in International Law and Economics (MILE) and the Rochester-Bern Executive MBA are two programs that are available exclusively at the University of Bern.
