It is governed by a Board of Trustees that is appointed by the governor. The College is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Cecil also has articulation agreements with more than 30 universities and colleges, both in Maryland and outside the state. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of seven lay members appointed by the Governor of Maryland for six-year renewable terms. The President of the College reports directly to the Board of Trustees. Centrally located in Maryland's most northeastern county and near the town of North East, the College is situated on Route 272, one-half mile north of Interstate 95 and 2.5 miles north of the intersection of Route 40. The College is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, both 50 miles away, and Wilmington, Delaware. In its thirty-five year history, the College has experienced tremendous growth in its enrollment, its facilities and its services to the community. The College has a diverse student population including traditional students who come to the College directly from high school, returning adults, and senior citizens.
