OUC is a young, dynamic institution based on strong traditions. It was established in 1994 when the Norwegian college system was restructured and 13 smaller colleges in the Oslo area merged. Therefore, many of OUC's degree programmes date back to the 19th century. Most courses are held in the centre of Oslo. Today most of the college's activities take place in the premises located in the old Frydenlund brewery at Bislet. Seven Faculties OUC's seven faculties provide degree programmes on all the three Bologna cycles; bachelor, master and doctoral. The faculties are: Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Journalism, Library and Information Science, Faculty of Education and International Studies and Faculty of Art, Design and Drama. Centres Development work with pedagogy and the study of professions are three important areas in which OUC has developed special expertise. OUC's centres are: Centre for Educational Research and Development, Centre for the Study of Professions and National Centre for Muliticultural Education. Training and Learning Environment Oslo University College makes a point of uniting well-developed theoretical skills with close relation to each professional field. The curriculum is designed to enable students to develop both analytical and critical skills. Many courses have periods of practice where the students try out future professional roles. This combination of theory and practice characterises the professional degree courses and makes it an extra challenge to study at Oslo University College. Research and Development Faculty members come from a wide range of academic areas and this is reflected in the research conducted. OUC has national competence in several subjects, and these are also priority areas for research and development. Internationalisation Internationalisation is an important issue in OUC's strategy of improving quality in education and research. OUC is actively engaged in facilitating student and staff exchange, as well as joint development of courses and study programmes. State University Colleges Norway's state university colleges are regulated under the same structure and legislation as the universities, and are on the same academic level. Credits can be transferred between universities and university colleges. Campus The main campus at OUC is conveniently located in the centre of Oslo, in the old Frydenlund brewery. A ten-minute walk will bring you to the harbour, commercial district and government offices. Whether you are a student or faculty member, OUC has many activities to offer. The college hosts several cafeterias, gyms, and a student pub. In addition, there are a variety of sports groups, music activities and clubs for special interests, which are open to all students and faculty members. Most faculties have extra-curricular activities as well. The International Office arranges various events, such as excursions to museums, hiking, international café etc. for exchange students.
