46 years ago on the territory of a new city, Tomsk-7, there was opened a part-time branch of the Physical-Technical Faculty of the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute and the Tomsk part-time polytechnic secondary school.
Nowadays the Academy comprises four faculties and trains specialists on 16 educational directions. It has more than one thousand students and more than one hundred teachers. 68% of the teachers have scientific degrees, and 15% are professors and Doctors.
Our Academy is also a science center of Seversk, doing researches in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, History, Economics and many others.
The school was founded in 1959 as a branch of the Physics-Technological faculty of Tomsk Polytechnic University.
From 1996 to 2001, the school was known as the Seversk Technological Institute of Tomsk Polytechnic University. Later, it became an independent institution called the Seversk State Technological Institute and in 2005, adopted its current name.
The Seversk State Technological Academy was founded in 1959 as a department of the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute, physical-technical faculty, with the aim of training specialists closer to one of the nuclear industry centers – the Siberian Chemical Plant.
Being a part of the TPU till 2001, the SSTA inherited its rich traditions, the main of which are:
# the unity of scientific and educational work that gives specialists deep general knowledge;
# fundamental engineering and practical training which helps the graduates to adapt to current conditions of production;
# close interaction with nuclear enterprises and organizations, mostly the SCP, when training and improving qualification of the staff, as well as conducting fundamental and applied research work;
# exacting demands upon students and teachers, which guarantees high level of graduates qualification;
Nowadays the SSTA is one of the leading higher schools for nuclear industry and its main tasks are:
# to meet personal need for intellectual, cultural and moral development;
# to meet society’s need for highly-qualified specialists;
# to develop researches and use the scientists’ achievements both in industry and education process;
# to train, re-train and improve the qualification of specialists and leading staff;
# to accumulate and further increase moral, cultural and scientific values of our society;
# to form patriotism, civil attitude and ability for work in modern times;
# to spread knowledge among the population, to increase its level of education and culture.
The strategic directions of the Academy’s activity are:
# attracting potential entrants and other educational service consumers;
# becoming the center of nuclear education and science in Siberia and the Far East by creating a university complex;
# strengthening the staff of the higher school;
# improving the methodic of the process of education by applying up-to-date information technology, distant as well;
# increasing research in nuclear industry and widening scientific contacts in Russia and abroad;
# developing material and technical basis for education and research;
# creating the system of quality management in all kinds of activities;
# widening and strengthening activity outside budget in all directions;
# widening international cooperation in education and research;
# integration into the world information space.
Basing on the main tasks of the Seversk State Technological Academy,
acting in accordance with our higher school’s traditions,
taking into account the five main functions of a branch higher school – professional, scientific, cultural, social and educational,
bearing in mind that historical and local position binds to train specialists not only for the SChP, but for all nuclear enterprises in the Asian part of Russia as well,
the leaders of the SSTA declare:
the SSTA aspires to become the best higher school in training specialists for the nuclear industry and in the research for the effective industry development.
Our mission is to meet the educational need of the person, society and state in the field of nuclear technology, basing on the developing the quality management system through achieving high professional level and competitiveness of our graduates, to further develop staff, information, material and financial resources under integration conditions, to promote nuclear power engineering success and to affect the social and economical development of our city and region.
In order to realize our mission we are constantly trying:
# to improve the process of education, as well as management and providing and control process;
# to improve the quality of education and the research effectiveness by close integrating education process and science, by using new education technologies, and also by improving methodic and material and technical providing of the education process;
# to observe and predict the demands for our graduates’ quality standards;
# to aim at the best achievements of the world leaders in the field of training the specialists for the nuclear industry;
# to treat secondary technical schools as our partners;
# to monitor own possibilities and the results achieved;
# to introduce, support and improve the quality management system in accordance with the international standard IES 9001-2000;
# to demand performing the regulations of the quality management system from all the members of the staff;
# to improve the professional level of the staff;
# to provide resources and conditions for effective and creative work.
The administration of the SSTA is the leader in realization of this policy for the quality and is responsible for creating by every level leader of the SSTA the conditions necessary for achieving the aim declared.
